Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

Project Gotham Racing 4 also rocks...
Beyond all the cool cars, and exciting races, you can take photos of all the actions, and edit them as you post them online under www.pgrnations.com... The following are 3 shots from one of my races this afternoon.

The one above is my new wallpaper!

2008: ...7, 6...
70 . I like VA more than I like NC.
69. Getting an RPM into the Fedora distribution was kinda cool.
68. Getting articles published on Red Hat Magazine was also cool. I got 5 total so far. I hope I will have more ideas for 2008.
67. iPhoto is a much better tool than Picasa 2, yet, Picasa 2 is not that bad, specially for Linux.
66. Letting 'dotgospel.com' go was a good decision, sometimes it is smart to step down, focus on other things, and delegate your responsibilities.
65. The 3 podcasts I listen to every week: Cart Talk, Brentwood Church Teachings (Pastor Jon Dupin), Woodland Hills Church (Pastor Greg Boyd).
64. Linkedin.com is a cool social network site. I actually got a job inquiry from Google itself from it.
63. Orkut is another great social network site, not necessarily because of its functionality, but because so many people in Brazil it. This year, I was able to get in touch with friends that I haven't heard from in 15 - 20 years.
62. Lipton's Diet Green Tea Citrus and White Tea Raspberry still great.
61. The Simpsons Movie is possibly the best movie of the year (for me).
60. Another year went by with me not take hardly any time to read some books :-( And the ones I did read (or tried to) weren't that good. 'Foi sem querer querendo,' a Brazilian book about the Mexican TV Show 'Chavo Del Ocho' was my favorite read of the year.
59. My favorite restaurant was P.F. Changs and Carrabba's.
58. My favorite Disney ride: Soarin'
57. $800 for a car that has been running flawlessly for almost 1 year, is possibly the best deal of the year for me :-)
56. Gimp (2.4) is a viable solution for Photoshop.
55. XBOX Live is really a sweet idea, not only the online game playing but little things like taking photos of your car on the Xbox and being able to make them public on a web site under your profile.
54. Skype is possibly one of my favorite applications of all time, not only it allowed me to get away from the evil TELCOs for international calls, it also has saved me a bundle over the years, and allows most of my family to call my house as if it were local calls for them.
53. Lycos Mix was one of the biggest disappointments of the year. I still think it is one of the coolest ideas out there, but the support Lycos provides makes the application mostly unusable.
52. Hardee's 'Egg Cheese Steak Biscuit' is the best fast food breakfast there is :-)
51. NetworkManager on Linux has a lot of potential, and it is quite nice when it works, but a real pain in the butt when it doesn't.

2008: ...8...
80. Sex gets better with age
79. I miss my Mac, but Linux does rock.
78. The iPod Touch is cool, but it needs to work under Linux.
77. Finding out someone from your extended family died months after the fact really really sucks, even if they are 6K miles away.
76. Gmail is by far my favorite email client out there... I used it with virtually all my email accounts.
75. I stopped using Opera because of Google's Browser Sync extension for Firefox.
74. Formula 1 is the greatest sport in the world.
73. It took one amateur to build the arc, and many professionals to build the titanic.
72. Don't forget to wear sunscreen.
71. I love flickr.

Merry Christmas!
In case there is anyone out there who still reads this blog, I wish you and your family and friends (and even enemies) a very Merry Christmas.
Don't forget that Jesus Christ, our King, is the ONLY reason for the season!
2008: ...9....
90. Loving God is one thing. Finding a church that you can call home is something else totally different, and much harder to do, I think.
89. Commuting from home to work (and vice-versa) is not as bad as one may think. There is a lot of time to think about things, unwind, and even learn through podcasts.
88. Friendship is the most precious and rarest of all things (specially in our culture).
87. Drive slow.
86. Old movies (specially black and white ones) are awesome. I would almost dare to say that they are the only ones worth watching nowadays.
85. What happened to Christian rock music? Not only in the US, but specially in Brazil? The good bands are pretty much disbanded, and the ones that are still around have hardly any message in their lyrics.
84. What happened to TV? Independent of the writers strike, 2007 is possibly the worst year in TV as far as shows to watch...
83. Going green. Possibly my least favorite color since people tried to make "going green" something that is cool and hip to do... The planet is ours, it is to be used by us. We shouldn't waste, we should manage it responsibly, yet we should be like that we everything in our lives.
82. A child's smile. There is nothing more pure, genuine and awesome than the smile for a baby.
81. Family. The extended family is something that most of us take for granted. I miss mine.

2008: 10...
2008 is almost here. During the next 10 days, I will post 100 personal thoughts (in no particular order) from 2007 for 2008.
100. Myspace sucks.
99. Disney World rocks. I can't wait to go back.
98. Facebook is fun.
97. It sucks to have Vista installed on my laptop just so I can sync up my ipod Touch.
96. I regret selling my Samsung NV10, even though I love the features my NV11 has.
95. Blogging has become more than a hobby. It has become a personal need to write.
94. The first time, and hopefully the last time, I literally yelled at one of my parents. Sucky feeling.
93. A son's love can teach his father many lessons.
92. I can enjoy a product from Microsoft afterall, I really like the xbox 360.
91. I am out of the handheld gaming business. The PSP and Gameboy didn't do it for me.
Continues Tomorrow...

Forza Motorsport 2 rocks!!!
I figured it out today that the photos I take of my cars racing in Forza Motorsport 2 are actually available online for download. That is just too cool!

A couple of Christmas thoughts...
Christmas is a time when you get homesick - even when you're home. ~Carol Nelson
Without going into the 'religious' sense of Christmas (which I know is the main point), someone doesn't even have to be a 'practicing' Christian to enjoy the season. It's usually associated with family, nostalgia, better days, childhood... Warm fuzzy feelings! :-)
I remember going to my grandparents home, staying up late, having Christmas supper at midnight, opening presents in the morning... good days.
He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith
This sentence is a universal truth. If you are not happy with what you have now, you won't be happy with anything else... I heard someone from a TV show last night say: "Happiness comes from the inside."

My boss is leaving...
After almost a decade of leading Red Hat, I have decided to transition my CEO and President role for the personal reasons I have already discussed. It’s my privilege to continue serving this great company in the role of Chairman of the Board. Red Hat will be in the capable hands of a world-class executive team under the leadership of Jim Whitehurst as President and CEO.

I've never met the man, since I haven't been around that long, yet, I haven't met one person that knows him that doesn't respect him and like him as a leader. He will be missed.
Merry 'Freaking' Christmas to You!
I don't know how many situations I have been where I've seen parents being the worst example they could possibly be for their kids... including the annoying 'soccer moms,' but this one gotta be on the top of the list.
I love my kids, I love seeing them play sports, perform, do their best. I am filled with a sensation of completeness, yet, I do my best every single time not to be obnoxious. My kids know I love them, and I can teach them and tell things like (tips and hints) after the game.
To the retarded parents out there... Merry 'Freaking' Christmas to you too!
In the account, Roberts writes that chairs were thrown, obscenities were yelled and three mothers physically punched each other while two other mothers attempted to break up the fight.

Christmas Vacation
As of the end of the day tomorrow, my company will be closed for the 'Holidays' and it only open its doors back up on January 2nd. With that in mind, I have 11 days of time off to do something with them. The question is what to do?!
I could spent a few minutes trying to make a list of thing that I would like to do, mostly based on spending time with my family, reading a book (or two), and a little bit of gaming... I want to spend the least amount of time in the computer as possible.
Maybe an hour a day (at most) to post pictures, and write something on the blog... that's it.
Can I do it?!

Before midnight
1. I really really really don't see what people see in Halo 3, I got to the end of the game, I got to play it online, and I honestly couldn't care less about the game... I think Quake 2/3/4 are way more fun than Halo 3... For the Xbox 360, The Orange Box is SO SO SO much more fun!
2. 7 minutes left to midnight
3. I just had a bagel with butter and gouda cheese on it, it was pretty good, I skipped supper today.
4. Christmas is right around the corner, and unlike last year, where the family and I contributed so much to charities, this year we did zilch! I feel really really bad. :-(
5. 5 minutes left to midnight
6. I am running Firefox 3 Beta 2 on Fedora 8 right now, it runs pretty good.
7. Red Hat is closed for the Holidays, so I will be on Vacation starting this weekend and only go back to work on the 2nd... That's nice.
8. A friend from Brazil that I haven't talked to just instant messengered me via gtalk... I gotta run.

Practicing The Presence of God
First, let me spill out some thoughts in my head.
1. Somewhere along my life's journey the act of praying became a ritual... something I do when I am in trouble, or when I want something really bad... I can 'proudly' say I pray everyday, but it is a prayer I do with my kids. Something I do to teach my kids something... a ritual.
2. I can go by a whole day w/o having the notion of God's love go through my mind at all. I will even tell people 'I will be praying for you,' yet, I never get to it.
3. I can pray anytime and anywhere... I want to learn talking to God all the time. And to learn something, we usually have to pratice...
I just bought the book: "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence who was a French monk during the 17th Century... I am very interested and curious to read it. I hope God will use it to teach me something.
4. I don't know if it is just me, but because of some issues that catholics and evangelicals have in some cultures (i.e. in Brazil), I have erroneously in the back of my mind that Christianity, the 'true' one, only existed during the first Centuries after Christ, and after Protestant Reform... and even that sometimes is hard to follow because of so many rules and purism past times carried out within Christianity...
5. I heard about this book, and I am writing these thoughts about prayer thanks to the messages given by pastor Greg Boyd from Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Check out his last 2 messages here and here, God may speak to you as well.
6. I need to have this relationship, or the God-shaped hole within me will be filled up by something else.

The future that never came
Some of these ideas are funny, some of it is fascinating... The sad part is our reality today.
An excerpt from the 1958 "Disneyland" TV Show episode entitled "Magic Highway USA". In this last part of the show, an exploration into possible future Transportation technologies is made. It's hard to believe how little we've accomplished on this front since 1958, and how limited the scope for imagining such future technologies has become. Witness an artifact from a time where the future was greeted with optimism. Note the striking animation style here, achieved with fairly limited animation and spectacular layouts.

Psalms 50:1
The Mighty One, God, the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to where it sets.
It lasted for about 2 weeks
I am back blogging. I like to write, I need to write. I don't care if nobody reads it, I just need a place to let out the words in my head... and here is the place for it.
